Real-time traffic management and live data helped Augusta reduce congestion, improve network visibility and keep traffic flowing during one of golf’s biggest events. As the world watched Rory McIlroy claim victory at The Masters, Augusta had to keep the city moving.

With thousands of visitors travelling across the city, managing traffic safely and efficiently was critical. Behind the scenes, Augusta partnered with Causeway one.network (known as CausewayOne Network in the UK) to coordinate roadworks and share live updates – helping residents, visitors and spectators stay on the move during one of the busiest weeks of the year.

Real-time traffic management when it matters most

Major events put pressure on any city. Roads get busier. Routes change quickly. And people need clear information to make the right decisions.

During the tournament, Augusta shared live updates on construction zones, lane closures and traffic conditions through Causeway one.network. This data fed directly into navigation apps like Waze, Google Maps and Apple Maps, helping drivers adjust their routes as conditions changed.

The platform also supported targeted traffic measures across key routes. For example, westbound traffic on Washington Road was redirected away from Berckmans Road, guiding vehicles along alternative routes such as Alexander Drive. Clear guidance like this helped reduce congestion on some of the city’s busiest corridors.

Managing access and keeping people safe

Keeping traffic flowing meant managing both the roads and how people moved through Augusta as a whole.

A dedicated rideshare area was set up near Washington and Berckmans Road, with controlled entry to keep vehicles moving safely. Overnight parking restrictions across patron lots helped manage demand and prevent disruption.

Temporary traffic signals were also installed at key crossing points, including River Ridge Drive, making it easier for pedestrians to cross busy routes safely.

Visitors were given clear directions to reach the event, avoiding unnecessary traffic in residential areas and helping journeys run more smoothly.

Keeping the city moving, now and beyond

Together, these measures helped Augusta manage high traffic volumes across key routes like Washington Road, Berckmans Road, River Watch Parkway and Alexander Drive.

With a clear, connected view of the network, city teams could respond quickly as conditions changed – whether that was traffic build-up, roadworks or shifting demand. For drivers, it meant fewer surprises and smoother journeys.

This work builds on Augusta’s wider Broad Street Improvement Project, where Causeway one.network is helping the city manage roadworks in real time. By bringing planning, coordination and communication into one place, Augusta is taking a more connected approach to traffic management, even during major events and every day.

Clear, timely information makes all the difference. When people know what’s happening, they can plan ahead, travel safely and keep moving.

Augusta Partners with Causeway Technologies to Revolutionize Traffic Management During Broad Street Improvement Project

AUGUSTA, GA (March 24, 2026) – The City of Augusta Engineering Department is proud to announce a new partnership with Causeway one.network, a leading digital platform for roadwork coordination and communication, to support Augusta’s Broad Street Improvement Project. This collaboration, Causeway one.network’s first road agency partnership in Georgia, aims to minimize construction disruptions and enhance safety for residents and commuters throughout the duration of the Broad Street Improvement Project.

By utilizing Causeway’s industry-leading road management technology, Augusta Engineering can bring real-time visibility to roadwork and traffic impacts, providing a clearer picture and enhancing communication between city departments, contractors and the public.

The Causeway one.network platform acts as a digital bridge between construction crews and the driving public. Key features of the pilot include:

Real-Time Navigation Integration: Live data from Broad Street construction zones will be integrated directly into leading navigation apps, including Waze, Google Maps and Apple Maps.

Enhanced Safety: By providing drivers with advanced notice of lane shifts and work zones, the platform creates a safer environment for both roadway workers and pedestrians.

Improved Coordination: City engineers and public works teams can better manage utility conflicts and weather-related schedule changes, reducing the overall impact on downtown traffic flow.

“We recognize that major infrastructure projects can be a challenge, and we’ve heard from our downtown stakeholders that uncertainty around construction can be stressful,” said Malik Hameed, PhD, PE, director of engineering for the City of Augusta. “By partnering with Causeway, we are bringing state-of-the-art traffic coordination to Broad Street to help make navigating downtown a seamless experience. This solution ensures our community has the most accurate, up-to-the-minute information to move around with ease, allowing everyone to continue enjoying our downtown while seeing the exciting progress of Broad Street’s transformation for themselves.”

“We’re excited to partner with the City of Augusta, Georgia — an innovator that’s embracing new ways to deliver safer, smarter streets,” said Paul Madeira, chief international growth officer at Causeway one.network. “We’re especially proud to support this TIA-funded initiative as our first project in Georgia, helping the City make an everyday, tangible impact for Augusta’s residents. Together, we’re strengthening how information is shared and how work gets done across the community.”

The Broad Street Improvement Project is designed to revitalize Augusta’s historic heart, providing a major streetscape and infrastructure upgrade to Broad Street featuring new sidewalks and handicap ramps, parking, raised bike lanes, landscaping and trees, and a redesigned James Brown Linear Park including a series of vibrant, art-driven elements that celebrate the legacy of the Godfather of Soul.

The partnership with Causeway one.network is one of several ways the City of Augusta Engineering Department is enhancing communication and transparency during the project. To keep the community inspired and informed, the Engineering Department is significantly increasing its outreach efforts through more frequent communications and website and social media updates. This project is more than just an infrastructure upgrade; it is an investment in a more vibrant, accessible and connected downtown for every resident, business owner and visitor alike.
